Program content

The Conducting Leadership® program offers two focal points: strengthening teamwork and developing leaders. To this end, the experience gained from orchestral work is consistently applied to non-musical work processes and dynamics.

 

How is an orchestra formed as a unit from the multitude of personalities and skills? What teamwork requirements arise from this? What qualities do conductors need to bring to the table in order to lead an orchestra? Perspectives such as these are conveyed in workshops in such a way that even people with no previous musical experience can quickly and purposefully reflect on their own working methods in the context of the musical ensemble. The program agenda includes:

  • Understanding: How does an orchestra work?

  • Perception as an orchestra musician

  • Working together in an orchestra

  • Basic knowledge of percussion technique (with and without baton)

  • Building musical imagination and musical storytelling

  • Confident appearance with natural aplomb and authority

  • Psychology of conducting

  • Philosophy of conducting

  • Non-verbal communication and rehearsal work with the orchestra

  • Self-organization

Depending on the length of the Conducting Leadership modules, the content is designed in breadth and depth in order to achieve optimal experiences and results for the participants.

Repertoire

The repertoire covered will be communicated in advance of participation. The repertoire covered in the workshop includes excerpts from works such as 

 

 

  • L.v. Beethoven: Symphony No. 5

  • J. Brahms: Hungarian Dance No. 5

  • F. Schubert: Symphony No. 5

 

 

Your requested pieces will be considered if possible.

Requirements

You do not need any previous musical knowledge to register. Far more important than this is your openness to new things. If you want to prepare yourself, listen to the pieces sent to you before you take part. This will give you an initial idea and, above all, the anticipation of standing in front of an orchestra.
